How do I use Symantec Endpoint Protection to scan my hard drive?

Manually scanning your computer for threats is useful if you believe your computer could be affected by a virus or other malicious software. If viruses are detected when a scan is run, please contact the IT Help Desk for further assistance.

 

Running a manual scan

In the bottom right hand corner of the screen you should see a Symantec Endpoint Protection Shield.

Double click this shield to open Symantec Endpoint Protection. Click the Scan for threats link on the left hand side.

To start a newly created scan right click the scan in the list and select Scan Now.  Once you have selected the type of scan you wish to run, the following box will be displayed until the scan is completed.

Once the Scan has finished a report will be given on the status of the device.

After the scan has been completed, you may be prompted to to clean, remove or quarantine any files that contain viruses. If you are unsure of how to proceed, please contact the IT Help Desk.
