What is SkyDrive?
SkyDrive is an online service where you can create, upload and share files and access these from a web browser. The service is provided by Microsoft and is linked to your UniSA student email account. SkyDrive provides:
- Online storage - Your SkyDrive account includes 7GB worth of space, which allows you to store, share and edit thousands of files!
- Convenience - No matter where you are - on campus, at home, on the move or on the train - you have access to the documents stored in your SkyDrive as long as you have an internet connection. You can even download the SkyDrive app for your smart phone to view your files while you're on the move.
- Control - Need to work on a group assignment but are finding it impossible to get everyone together? You can choose to share specific files or folders with your fellow students online. You can modify file permissions so that you can edit and work on your assignments without having to be in the same room.
- Publishing power - Got something amazing you want to share? Easy, share links directly to your folders, files and photos from your SkyDrive to your blog or webpage.
Terms of Use
- The SkyDrive service is an optional extension of the Microsoft provided Live@edu email service. To use SkyDrive - all students must comply with Microsoft's Terms and Privacy conditions. On first use, you will be prompted to accept these Microsoft terms and conditions.
- The use of SkyDrive is optional. UniSA does not require you to use SkyDrive to complete your studies. If you do not wish to accept Microsoft's Terms and Privacy conditions for the use of SkyDrive - that is ok - but you will not be able to utilise the Microsoft SkyDrive utility.
- UniSA and Microsoft will not be held responsible for any and/or all data loss or corruption. Students will have to arrange their own backup or replication of their data. Microsoft provides no commitment to guarantee continuous access to your files; therefore any loss of service may deny access to important files at critical times.

Using SkyDrive
As SkyDrive is a hosted Microsoft service, Microsoft provides extensive user information on its SkyDrive website. A useful starting point is the "Get started" information at the following link - Using SkyDrive.
Will SkyDrive use my internet allowance?
No. When on campus and using PC's in computer pools or eduroam wireless, the use of SkyDrive is free. Internet traffic when uploading, downloading, or working on your documents via SkyDrive will not be deducted from your internet allowance. Internet allowance is not deducted for use when off campus.
Office WebApps
Office WebApps is a web-based version of Microsoft Office productivity suite that is accessible from within SkyDrive. It includes the web-based versions of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft OneNote. The Web Apps allow users to access their documents directly from anywhere within a web browser as well as share files and collaborate with other users online.
The main benefits of using Office Web Apps are:
Always have the tools you need
When you store your Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote files online,
Office Web Apps enable you to make updates from virtually any computer with
an Internet connection. You can also access and view your files from your
mobile device.
Work better together
Office Web Apps make it easy to work together with everyone on your team,
regardless of what version of Microsoft Office they use and whether they
work on a PC or a Mac.
What you see is what you get
Office Web Apps provide high-fidelity viewing of your document so your
content looks its best. From images and footnotes, to table borders and text
effects, viewers see the file with great document fidelity and consistent
formatting.
Get started right away
You don't have to spend time learning new programs. Office Web Apps have a
familiar Office interface and include some of the same tools you already use
today. And, when you need to access additional features, it takes just one
click to open the file in the corresponding Microsoft Office program on your
desktop.
