Fixed Line Telephones
University workstations are equipped with NEC DT710 handsets. These digital (IP) handsets are easy-to-use and reliable, and are capable of performing a variety of functions including voicemail, call forward, speed-dial, hands-free, and teleconferencing.
Although the NEC DT710 handsets fitted to University workstations are easy-to-use you may want to refer to the Using Your Desktop Telephone webpage below to ensure you are getting the most out of your handset and the features it offers.
The cost of a new desktop telephone handset or headset varies, depending on the type of handset (6 button or 24 button, SIP, analogue or softphone) and type of headset (basic, premium or mobile), and it should be noted that additional network costs may apply for activities such as activating an existing network point, installation of a new network point, or charges for work to be completed by a NEC technician.
Charges for Telephone network jobs vary, depending on the type of network work required (eg. activation of an existing network point, installation of a new network point, or work that can only be undertaken by a NEC technician), and it should be noted that additional charges may apply if additional equipment is required such as handsets or headsets.
It is possible to retain your current extension number when moving to a new desk, building or even campus; however it should be noted that if you are moving to a different Cost Centre (eg. different Team/Unit, School or Division) you should first discuss the relocation with your current Cost Centre Manager, as they are the owner of the physical handset and associated extension number.
If you are moving to a location with an active staff network connection point, and no changes are required to the PABX, the move is quite a simple process. If the move will involve activation or installation or a new network connection point, or changes to the PABX, then a Telephone Work Request - Move form must be submitted.
By default, desktop handsets are set to divert to voicemail when you are busy on another call or after 6 rings. A red light on your phone will indicate that you have un-read voice messages, and you can retrieve your messages using the desktop handset or via your staff email.
The Telephone Directory Entry template is used to contact the administrator of the Telephone Directory system to request a new entry or update of an existing entry in the Telephone Directory. It is not used for any other purpose.
