Software Licensing - VMware


Introduction

The University has a licence agreement (Academic Term Licence Agreement (ATLA)) with VMware that allows the use of selected VMware server products to be used at no charge.

Who can use VMware products under this agreement?

IT support staff are able to use selected VMware products on University owned servers.

What products are covered?

Note: Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) is excluded from the ATLA agreement. The Software may not be used to create a virtual desktop infrastructure (e.g., hosted desktop solution).

How to obtain a licence and install the product

To obtain a VMware licence covered by the ATLA agreement you will need to complete the online VMware Software Licence Application form. Once your form has been processed you will be notified and be given access to the installation files.  You will also be sent the a licence key.  In due course you will be sent a licence certificate to prove that you are entitled to use the product.
