Microsoft Windows 7 at UniSA
After extensive testing, Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit has been selected as the recommended version for use at UniSA. A UniSA SOE based on Windows 7 Enterprise has been created and is identified as UniSASOE v2.x.
Windows 7 Enterprise is available in both 32bit (x86) and 64bit (x64) versions. It is only recommended that the 32 bit version be used on UniSA computers unless there is a particular requirement for 64 bit.
Access to the software
UniSA IT Support staff have access to Windows 7 Enterprise installation files and to the UniSA SOE images for both 32 and 64 bit.
Application Compatibility
ISTS and UniSA IT support staff have tested a range of corporate and third party applications on Windows 7 Enterprise. Please contact the IT Help Desk or your local IT support staff if you wish to know or test the compatibility of a particular software application.
Microsoft have released a list for IT Professionals which indicates which applications are compatible or not. See the link below for the applications and Microsoft's testing results.

Licensing and Activation
The University is licensed to use Windows 7 Enterprise on University owned systems providing the computer is supplied with a qualifying desktop operating system licence (ie this would typically be a Windows OEM licence). UniSA Designated PC Suppliers are required to supply such a licence with all desktop and notebook system purchases. A Windows desktop operating system upgrade license (ie Windows 7 Enterprise) is covered by the University's Microsoft Campus Agreement.
UniSA uses the Key Management Service (KMS) to assign licenses to clients. Default activation period is 7 days with an activation interval of 2hrs. You have a 30 day grace period before you will be forced into reduced functionality mode. Once activated your client will by default continue to renew activation every 7 days, this can be set to a maximum of 30 days. These settings are configured client side.
For users who do not have regular contact with the Universities network, we recommend you apply for a MAK license key.
Wireless
To connect to Eduroam follow the steps in the Getting connected to UniSA - Windows 7 guide.
Known Issues
Office 2010 64bit: Microsoft recommend you use a 32bit version of Office unless there is a particular need to run the 64bit version. For more information visit the Microsoft web page: Choose the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Microsoft Office
Office 2010 and SharePoint: SharePoint Designer 2010 is not compatible for use with UniSA systems and therefore should not be used. SharePoint Designer 2007 will remain the preferred version.
Office 2010 and Adobe Acrobat: Version 9 and earlier of Adobe Acrobat will sometimes cause an error when opening a PDF document linked on a web page. Once the error message has been cleared the document will open as normal.
Office InfoPath 2010: InfoPath 2010 is not compatible for use with UniSA systems and therefore should not be used. InfoPath 2007 will remain the preferred version.
Office WorkSpace 2010: Office WorkSpace 2010 is essentially the replacement product for Groove 2007. Neither product is suitable for use at UniSA and should not be used.
Oracle: You will need to install Oracle 11g Release 2 as a minimum. Previous versions of Oracle are not compatible.
