About the Program
SMS@UniSA is an exciting, collaborative venture designed to ensure SACE Stage 2 Chemistry, Physics and Specialist Mathematics is closely aligned with pathways to University.
Students will be taught at the University of South Australia, Mawson Lakes campus, accessing the university site and resources.
Lecturers and senior students from the university will contribute to some of the course delivery, working alongside the schools' teachers and students.
Students will know first hand about:
- University before they enrol
- The many future options open to them through tertiary study
- Career pathways in the Maths and Science area
This program is made possible through the collaborative efforts of Fremont-Elizabeth City High School, Para Hills High School, Paralowie R-12 School, Roma Mitchell College, Salisbury High School, Valley View Secondary School, Windsor Gardens Vocational College and the University of South Australia, Mawson Lakes campus.
Program Details
Each year prospective SMS@UniSA students from the collaborating schools will be offered an Orientation session in each of the subjects on Tuesday 22nd and Thursday 24th November. Letters will be sent home in the first few weeks of Term 4 with full details. Two (2) Scholarships to the value of $500 are available. Application forms and details are available from your school.
The 2012 year starts in the first week of term 1, for Chemistry and Physics, and in the second week for Specialist Mathematics at the following times:

| Thursday (1.00 - 4.00) | Stage 2 Chemistry |
Students will be loaned the following for the school year while
they are involved in the SMS@UniSA program:
- Lab coat
- Safety glasses
- Access to the university's library & computer facilities
In addition students will have access to a range of UniSA (Mawson Lakes) facilities including the:
- Lecture theatres and tutorial rooms
- Laboratories
- Library and related resources
- Computer pools and Internet access
- Cafeteria
Additional Opportunities
SMS students will have the opportunity to apply for a sponsored position at the annual UniSA 'Science Booster', held during the term 2 school holidays. This is a unique examination & study skills workshop designed especially for year 12 students.
