Summer 2011 - White Paper
The University of South Australia (UniSA) joined forces with the International Space University (ISU) to bring forty-three students from nine countries to Adelaide for an intensive study program of all aspects of space. Students were introduced to the work of the UniSA Institute of Telecommunications Research, as well as space medicine, policy and law, and space engineering and science.

The students of the inaugural Southern Hemisphere Summer - Space Program (SHS-SP) 2011 worked over five weeks to produce a White Paper,
Paths to Progress: Space and the Southern Hemisphere, to inspire commitment and further the case of space within the Southern Hemisphere.
The White Paper proposes space-related policies and strategies to serve current and future social and economic needs in Southern Hemisphere States. This mission statement was articulated into three distinctive goals.

related needs and advancements.
Goal
2: To reduce the impact of natural challenges
through enhanced access to space based Earth
Observation (EO) capabilities.
- Recommendation 3:
Collaboration on EO systems.
- Recommendation 4:
Cooperative EO data and
information product
dissemination.
- Recommendation 5:
Develop expertise and
infrastructure to ensure optimal
use of available EO and GIS
solutions.
Goal 3: To use space
telecommunication capabilities to address the UN
Millennium Development Goals.
