Research Area: Colloid and interface science, chemistry and physics of porous media, chemical engineering
Supervisor: A/Prof Rossen Sedev
Description: The wettability of porous media is of large practical interest but is multifaceted due to both complex geometry and surface heterogeneity. In this project we aim at developing our understanding of liquid/liquid displacement in porous bodies. Experiments with original techniques and combinations of existing ones will be used to investigate static and dynamic wetting inside model and real porous media.
Outcomes of the project will be of direct interest to petroleum exploration and recovery, microfluidics, the design of micro- and nanoporous structures and to the movement of fluids in biological systems.
Travel will be involved, where short, focused periods will be spent at
CSIRO-Petroleum in Perth. There are strong connections with national and international research laboratories.
*Funding: An Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) is
available to support this project. Only Australian citizens, or
permanent residents of Australia, are eligible to apply.
