Professor Jonas Addai-Mensah, Associate Director: Minerals at The Wark, has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree (Doctor of Science honoris causa) from the University of Mines and Technology, Ghana (UMaT).
As noted by the Council of the UMaT, Jonas was awarded the Honorary Doctorate for his, 'sterling qualities regarding integrity and honesty, the huge contributions you have made to society, the interest you have shown and the invaluable contributions you have made to the University as well as your contributions towards the promotion of knowledge'.
A Memorandum of Understanding between UniSA and UMaT was signed in 2007 with Jonas being an instrumental part of this process. A component of the MoU is the training and education of higher degree research students. Currently, The Wark has seven UMaT students undertaking their PhD's.
Jonas will be in Ghana to receive the award at the University's fourth Congregation to be held on 28 July.
