Background
Benjamin Thierry was educated in France, obtaining his Engineering degree in Chemical Physics and Materials Sciences at the Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble (INPG). He then moved to Montreal to complete his Masters at the Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal in the Institute of Biomedical Engineering. Benjamin obtained his PhD in 2004 in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at McGill University in Montreal, Canada under the supervision of Prof Tabrizian, Prof Winnik and Prof Mehri. His work involved the development of new strategies for revascularization procedures based on surface modification of endovascular devices. Benjamin joined The Wark in May 2004.

Research Interests
The main aim of Associate Professor Benjamin Thierry's interdisciplinary research program is to develop and implement novel cancer biodiagnostic and prognostic technologies. A major aspect of his translational research is on the design of solid state biosensing approaches based on cutting edge nanotechnology principles to isolate and/or detect rare cells and cancer biomarkers from biological samples such as blood and resected tissues. In close collaborations with clinicians and cancer biologists, his group also aim to achieve mechanistic understanding of the penetration of therapeutic and diagnostic agents inside tumour tissues and to translate this fundamental understanding into more efficient diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.
