Background
Haolan Xu studied at the Najing Unviersity of Technology where he obtained a Bachelor degree in Materials Science & Engineering in 2003. He then studied at the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Science, obtaining his PhD in Materials Chemistry & Physics in 2008. His thesis topic was the Study of Crystal Growth Mechanism of Nanomaterials; Synthesis and Study of Photocatalysts for Degradation of Pollutants and H2 Harvest; Study of the Relationship between the Crystal Facet and Their Corresponding Catalytic Activity.

In 2008 Haolan was the recipient of an Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship and studied in the Department of Interface, Max Planck institute of Colloids and Interfaces (MPIKG) Potsdam, Germany. His research topic was the Surface Modification for Functional Colloid Particles; Oil-water Interface Chemistry & Physics; Nanocrystallization at Oil-water Interface.  Haolan joined The Wark in January 2011.
