Research Fellow in Mineral Processing
Qualifications
BAppSc(Hons) Central Queensland PhD UniSA
Background
Jason rejoined The Wark in 2008 as a Senior Research Fellow in Mineral
Processing after spending 5 years at the Gladstone Campus of CQ University
working as a lecturer and researcher. He has a background in Applied Physics
and completed his PhD at The Wark in 2001 on the measurement of interactions
between solid and fluid surfaces (using a novel surface forces apparatus)
under the guidance of Prof Roger Horn. While based in Gladstone, he lectured
and co-ordinated 1st year physics and also worked closely with Queensland
Alumina Limited investigating flow accelerated corrosion in spent liquor
heat exchangers.
Research Interests
• Surface properties and particle interactions of uranium bearing minerals
• Applying electrochemical methods to diagnose and control flotation
separation
• Surface forces between solids and solids and fluids (SFA and AFM)
• Flow accelerated corrosion (fundamentals, measurement and mitigation)
Current Project
Jason is part of a team working on a short-term project in collaboration with
BHP Billiton on investigating potential methods of improving the uranium
recovery process in the proposed Olympic Dam expansion.
