Cities’ Futures. Managing material flows and resource recovery in the City of Tomorrow.

Professor Steffen Lehmann
Thursday 23 September, 6.00pm

Allan Scott Auditorium, Hawke Building,
North Terrace, UniSA City West campus.

‘Cities are resource-intensive systems. By 2030, we will need to produce 50 per cent more energy and 30 per cent more food on less land, with less water and fewer pesticides.’

You are invited to a free public lecture with international urban sustainability expert Professor Steffen Lehmann. In this compelling lecture, Prof. Lehmann will discuss the need to build resilience in the design of new districts and more compact communities, and to reorganise the supply of construction materials through the reuse of building components and modular prefabrication of construction systems.

Internationally renowned architect and urban designer Prof. Lehmann leads an interdisciplinary team of researchers at UniSA, discovering and disseminating new knowledge on how cities will need to transform and grow, and how we can reduce consumption, to ensure sustainable urban development. Both behavioural change and resource related research are understood as major components of a low-to-no-carbon future.

German-born Prof. Lehmann is recognised internationally for his relevant work in architecture and sustainable urban design. He has a distinguished record of research and outstanding professional practice with a significant body of award-winning built works. Of particular note is Prof. Lehmann’s involvement in the architectural creation of the ‘New Berlin’.
