Staff expertise
The members of the Laser Light Scattering and Materials Science Group
have a broad range of skills in:
-
Physics
-
Chemistry
-
Ultrasonics
-
Electronics
-
Mathematics
-
Computing
The group has a Brookhaven Instruments light scattering system that has the ability to do Dynamic and Static Light Scattering (DLS and SLS).
-
DLS is capable of measuring the particle size distribution of colloidal dispersions in the range 1 to 1000 nanometers (0.001 to 1 micrometers).
-
SLS, usually done via Zimm plot analysis, is capable of measuring the molecular weight and radius of gyration of polymers in solution.
We have recently developed a Phase Analysis Light Scattering instrument
which can measure electrophoretic mobilities of colloidal dispersions. This
is a very sensitive technique and easily out-performs other methods for
measuring mobilities (especially in liquids of low relative permittivity).
We are interested in research on a collaborative or consulting basis in the
public and private sectors and would welcome the opportunity to discuss any
requirements.
