Lecture Recording
This project will provide an automated Lecture Recording System (LRS) that captures live lecture content and makes it available for download. This could be in a downloadable file or playable directly through a web browser in a variety of media formats and resolutions. Providing access to recorded lectures to students is viewed internationally as an important teaching tool.

The proposed system will be easy for academics to use and will include:

A Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) fact sheet has been prepared by the Learning and Teaching Unit.
From a student perspective the system will allow access to a series of lectures in a range of formats and bandwidth choices. This will allow the content to be downloaded or streamed directly to an on-campus computer, portable audio/video devices or an off-site computer connected to the Internet.
The new system will automatically schedule and record lectures in 32 lecture theatres. Lecturing staff will be able to pause the recording where, for pedagogical or other reasons, a recording of the lecture would not be beneficial to students. In addition, staff will be able to edit their recordings and manage availability to students via an administration screen.Recording of lectures will not include video recording but
will capture audio, through the lectern or lapel microphone, and any content
shown through the projector including PowerPoint slides, document camera
content and other PC applications.
The LRS is not intended as a replacement for lectures
or to encourage students not to attend lectures. Feedback from other
universities where lecture recordings are available to students indicate
that lecture attendance is not significantly affected. Lecture recordings
are however extremely useful for students who wish to review the lecture
material later in the teaching period and/or use the material as part of
revising for their exams or other assessments.
The following lecture theatres have been equipped with the LRS and are now available for use:
