Middle East in Revolt: The First Anniversary
17-18 March 2012, The University of MelbourneThis conference marks the first anniversary of the Arab revolutions. Throughout 2011 popular protests swept the Middle East as the region’s citizens demanded political change, accountability and reform. While many observers have drawn parallels with the crumbling of the Soviet bloc, the outcome of the Arab uprisings is far from clear. It may be premature to celebrate the ‘Arab Spring’ as heralding democracy to the region. This ground-breaking international conference draws together a range of global experts in a forum for reflection on a year that has changed history.

Burqas and Babies. Gilbert has been with the MnM Centre
