Francou the rowing champ among 5,000 to graduate from UniSA

Former world champion rower Jo Francou is one of almost 5,000 people who will graduate from UniSA this week.

Francou, who during her career has won no less than two international and 15 national rowing titles, will graduate with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Movement) on Wednesday April 7.

Wife of Port Power footballer, Josh Francou, Jo will be celebrating at home with Josh and their one-month-old son, William.

Since completing her studies, Jo has set up ‘The Studio’ a health/fitness/massage studio on Grange Road at Grange.

"The human movement program was really relevant to what I wanted to do," she says. "I thoroughly enjoyed my time at UniSA."

It’s been a juggle, combining the pressures of starting a new business and a new family, but Jo says it’s been made easier with support from hubby Josh.

"Josh is just home after his second knee reconstruction so that’s made things a bit easier."

"He also doing human movement at UniSA – he’s planning to go on to do PE teaching – so we’ve been able to study together as well."

Identical twins to graduate together

Matthew and Neil Tooley are identical twins but the similarities don’t stop at the genes.

The 24-year-olds will both graduate from UniSA on Tuesday April 5 with double degrees – a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil and Water) and a Bachelor of Applied Science.

Matthew says studying the same program with his twin has been "very handy."

"They say two heads are better than one, and I’ve got to agree with that, " he says. "It’s been great having each other to bounce ideas off, and if one of us missed a lecture it wasn’t a problem - we could always get the notes off of the other."

Both Matthew and Neil now work for SA Water under their graduate engineers program.

Honorary doctorates for Phillip Adams and Stephen Page

Australian film industry pioneer and media identity Phillip Adams will be presented with an Honorary Doctor Award by UniSA at a graduation ceremony on Wednesday April 7.

Artistic director of the 2004 Adelaide Festival, Stephen Page, will also receive an honorary doctorate, to be presented at the graduation ceremony on Thursday, April 8.

Others to receive honorary awards during the week include Professor Kevin O’Brien (who will be made an Emeritus Professor on April 6), Eric Granger (who will be made a University Fellow on April 7) and former UniSA registrar Liz Watson (who will be made a University Fellow on April 7).

ALL GRADUATION CEREMONIES WILL BE HELD AT THE ADELAIDE FESTIVAL THEATRE
