New Le Cordon Bleu programs unveiled at UniSA

A formal agreement has been signed between the University of South Australia and world-renowned hospitality education leader Le Cordon Bleu that will see the development of two specialty post-graduate qualifications unique to the industry.

The new programs – Master of International Hospitality Management and Master of International Meetings Industry Management – will be offered through the International Graduate School of Management (IGSM) at UniSA and have been developed by Le Cordon Bleu International and the University to fill key industry needs.

UniSA and Le Cordon Bleu International have worked as partners over several years to deliver an MBA program and the final year of a Bachelor of Business in International Hotel and Resort Management and International Restaurant and Catering Management.

UniSA’s Pro Vice Chancellor for Business and Enterprise, Professor Gerry Griffin, says a powerful hospitality and tourism education partnership unique to South Australia has been further enhanced.

"Our association with Le Cordon Bleu continues an outstanding partnership with a highly-visible and world recognised brand leader providing unprecedented access to specialised international markets that the University alone could not reach".

"We believe that the programs will attract large numbers of international students. They will have high academic merit and rigour, and will produce graduates that will be in demand by the industry."

Associate Professor Paul Reynolds of IGSM says the relationship with Le Cordon Bleu has enabled IGSM to become a world leader in developing computer-based simulations for management training in the hospitality industry.

"The major thrust of both programs is about the management and development of practical projects, and how to turn concepts and topics into effective and operational strategies. Both programs also have an action based research content, which takes place in industry.

"The programs feature computer based hotel and convention simulations and then the students move on to real industry -- so there are links between the classroom and real life. The program approach represents a powerful tool for industry. In turn, our students become much more employable."

The President of Le Cordon Bleu International, M. Andre Cointreau, says Adelaide is already regarded as a centre of excellence in hospitality management, gastronomy and culinary skills.

"These new developments enhance and solidify teaching in this area at both the middle management and post-graduate levels. We feel these new programs consolidate our on-going partnership with the University and will help in further building Adelaide as a hub of hospitality management teaching and research," M. Cointreau says.

The Master of International Hospitality Management Program will be taught in Adelaide while the International Meetings Industry course will to be delivered on-line and therefore available to students anywhere.

It’s expected that the Hospitality Management program could be completed in two years of full-time study, while the Master of International Meetings Industry Management would take three years in part-time mode. Both programs have had considerable industry input into their design and development.
