UniSA supporting women's cycling
UniSA’s
commitment to the Tour
Down Under expands even further this year with its sponsorship of
the Women’s
Criterium Series.
This year’s three-race series has an increased line-up of elite riders – including Jenny MacPherson, overall winner in 2006 and 2005 - all vying for $10,000 in prize money and the Amy Gillett Memorial trophy.
Pro Vice Chancellor and Vice President: Organisational Strategy and Change, Professor Hilary Winchester, says the University is delighted to be sponsor of the Women’s Criterium Series and to be supporting elite women athletes.
"UniSA has a proud tradition of supporting women as students and staff, and this sponsorship is a very appropriate addition to our association with the Tour Down Under,” Prof Winchester says.
“The University of South Australia is committed to equity and diversity in the workplace and the broader community, and this sponsorship complements those values.”
Prof Winchester says that as a key member of the Elite Athlete Friendly Universities Network (EAFU), UniSA supports student athletes in their endeavours to achieve both academic and athletic excellence.
“A number of UniSA students, including Alexis Rhodes and the late Amy Gillett-Safe, have been among those leading the way for Australia at the elite and professional ranks in cycling,” she says.
UniSA’s association with the Tour Down Under includes sponsoring Team UniSA-Australia, and presenting the Thinking on Two Wheels International Cycling Conference (at the Hilton International next Monday and Tuesday) and the Powerade mini tour for kids.
The UniSA Women’s Criterium Series races coincide with the Classic and Stages 1 and 4 of the Tour Down Under:
