UniSA to host international finance conference

UniSA is hosting an international finance conferenceUniSA will host an international finance conference next week, bringing national and international experts to Adelaide to discuss the latest research trends in finance.
The ‘Behavioural Finance and Capital Markets Conference’ is being presented by UniSA’s Centre for Applied Financial Studies and School of Commerce in the Division of Business. It is co-sponsored by Capital Markets CRC, SIRCA and Q Group Australia.
UniSA Professor in Finance, Petko Kalev, says the conference, with prominent national and international guests, is a coup for Adelaide and will enhance UniSA’s research links with the finance industry.
“The importance of well functioning financial markets was brought into sharp relief by the Global Financial Crisis in 2008, and has been underscored since by the turmoil in Europe and in public debt and currency markets in 2010 and 2011,” he says.
“Well informed academic teaching and research in finance has a vital role to play in the evolution of financial systems and markets in the world economy.”
Prof Kalev will chair a panel session, ‘Current Research Trends in Finance’, on Thursday September 15, at UniSA’s City West Campus. Professor Albert S. (Pete) Kyle (University of Maryland) and Professor Avanidhar (Subra) Subrahmanyam (UCLA) and Professor Robert Faff (UoQ) are the panellists.
The conference will be held on Friday September 16 at the Rockford Hotel and will bring into focus ‘Behavioural Finance and Capital Markets’ by discussing how people behave in a financial setting and more specifically addressing the various biases and actions of individuals in making financial decisions and trading in capital markets.
Two distinguished finance specialists, Prof Albert S. (Pete) Kyle from the University of Maryland and Prof Avanidhar (Subra) Subrahmanyam from UCLA will deliver keynote addresses on ‘High Frequency Trading and Market Microstructure’ and ‘Funding Constraints and Market Efficiency’ respectively.
The conference will be officially opened by UniSA Pro Vice Chancellor: Division of Business, Prof Gerry Griffin. It will be attended by Capital Markets CRC CEO Prof Alex Frino, Prof Doug Foster from Australian National University, Prof Ron Bird from University of Technology Sydney, Prof David Gallagher from Macquarie Graduate School of Management, Prof Madhu Veeraraghavan  from Monash University, Assoc Prof Barry Oliver from Australian National University, Dr P. Joakim Westerholm and Dr Andrew Grant from the University of Sydney, Dr Russell Jame and Dr Robert Tumarkin from the University of NSW, Dr Kingsley Jones from Jevons Global, Stefan Lipkiewicz from Bernie Lewis, and Mr Eben van Wyk from the Royal Bank of Scotland among others.
