UniSA offers last chance for advice before change of uni preferences cut-off

While thousands of students are coming to terms with what their final marks mean for them, UniSA will be here up until the last minute to help prospective students – whether they’re school leavers or mature age – make the decision that’s right for them.

UniSA’s Preference Information Event, to be held at City West Campus on Thursday, January 2 from 4.00pm – 7.30pm will give prospective students a final chance to receive advice about what university options are available to them before the SATAC preference cut-off deadline on January 3.

University staff will be on hand to provide university applicants all the information they need – from program information to what you can expect from university life, and there will also be special Return to Study Sessions, aimed specifically at people over the age of 21.

Senior Marketing Officer (equity and diversity), Judy Sykes, says not to panic if you haven’t made a final decision about what programs you should apply for.

“With year 12 results released only last week and recent STAT results, a lot of people are reconsidering their options,” she says.

“Some people have done better than they expected and may want to adjust their preferences accordingly, and others may be realizing they don’t have the results to get into the programs they originally listed on their SATAC form.”

Sykes’ message to people worried that they won’t get into the program they have their heart set on is to keep an open mind.

“There are options available to help you get where you want to – if you didn’t get the results to get into one of the more competitive programs that you have your heart set on, it’s worth considering enrolling in a more general, but related degree and transferring after first year.”

“UniSA also has a range of bridging and access programs that can help get you in to the program you want, so if you’re results aren’t as high as you’d like, that’s no reason to give up on your dream.”

UniSA is the only South Australian University offering a preference information session in the New Year before the SATAC cut-off on January 3. Prospective students who can’t make the event but still want advice can contact the UniSA Program Information Centre on 8302 2376 between 9.00am and 7.00pm.
