Offshore UniSA graduates to take centre stage at home

July 4, 2003

Next week will be a milestone in the lives of more than 500 students from Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore who will graduate with degrees from the University of South Australia at official award ceremonies to be held on their own home turf.

Three ceremonies will be held (in Hong Kong on Sunday July 6, Singapore on Thursday July 10, and Kuala Lumpur on Sunday July 13) to honour the achievements of students who have gained their degrees from UniSA by studying in their own country.

As offshore students of the University of South Australia, they have completed their studies thanks to support from UniSA lecturers, partnerships between UniSA and local universities, as well as the wealth of resources offered by UniSA via the internet.

The keynote speaker at the Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong awards ceremony will be UniSA’s Pro Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences, Professor David Wilkinson, while Professor Helen Thorne, Head of UniSA’s International Graduate School of Management, will address the Singapore graduates.

A highlight of the Singapore ceremony will be the presentation of the University Medal for the Division of Business and Enterprise to Weng Bunn Lee, who will graduate with a Bachelor of Business (Property). The medal is awarded annually to one graduand from each of UniSA’s four Divisions, in recognition of outstanding academic merit throughout all years of an undergraduate degree.
