New Student Tip #01 - Go to Orientation

Orientation is a vital part of your successful transition to UniSA. Joining in with your orientation program will get you off to a flying start. You will get lots of important information about your program of study; get to know your campus; find out about the student services available to support your study, and; perhaps most importantly, meet and get to know the other students you will be studying with

New Student Tip #02 - Make New Friends

You can begin meeting other students by attending orientation activities. Keep in mind that others are also new to the University and are interested in meeting new people. When the study period begins you will be able to get to know people in your lectures, seminars and tutorials. People who are taking the same program or courses often have similar interests and it is possible to make enduring and close friendships with fellow university students.

New Student Tip #05 - Clubs and Associations

UniLife offers a range of services and facilities including access to sporting clubs and group activities. There are also various non-sporting clubs and societies at UniSA where you can meet other people who have similar interests to you. Joining a club is a great way to become actively involved in university life and orientation is a great time to find out about all the clubs on offer.

New Student Tip #07 - Get Organised

Orientation is the perfect time to get organised, purchase your textbooks and try to prepare ahead for lectures. During this time familiarise yourself with the library and its resources, organise a study work space away from distractions and create a study timetable and stick to it. Utilise the free UniLife student diary which is available during orientation for you to collect so that you can start to plan ahead of time and not leave things to the last minute.

New Student Tip #08 - Get Online

Organise your ID card and get linked in to UniSA's online environment as soon as you can. Checking your emails regularly is a tip you will hear frequently during your first few weeks at university. Familiarise yourself with the UniSA website, the Student Portal, and your Course Homepages where you will find lecture notes and discussion pages.

New Student Tip #09 - Kick yourself out of bed

To give you the best start in your program it is vital that you are self-disciplined and attend all your classes so that you don't miss important information. You may find that lecturers will give exam tips during class and you don't want to miss these! Attending lectures and tutorials is not only important for your academic success but also for connecting with your peers.

New Student Tip #10 - Learn to Juggle

Managing time, workload and learning can be challenging for all students, especially if you have not studied at university before or are juggling work and family. As a student of the University of South Australia you will have the opportunity to develop your independence and autonomy by learning to manage your time and workload effectively. Uni is your priority but remember to have a balanced life and make time for your friends and family.
