On campus workshops
As an external student, your studies will be predominantly undertaken via online resources. You will need to ensure that you enrol into the external class number as provided in the relevant stage enrolment advice document. You will be expected to actively participate in online discussions and familiarise yourself with your online tutor, Register IT for workshop registration and Assign IT for assignment submission.
Apart from your online studies, you will be expected to attend intensive workshops held on campus at the University in South Australia. Workshops are held approximately 2 to 3 times per year for a full-time student and approximately 1 to 2 times per year for a part-time student. Workshops vary between 1- 4 days and are a core component of the programs.
- Bachelor of Nursing course workshop requirements (full-time and part-time students)
- Bachelor of Midwifery course workshop requirements (full-time and part-time students)
External students will need to register for a workshop upon enrolling in any one of these courses via Register IT.
Interstate clinical placements
Clinical placements are integral to the Bachelor of Nursing and Bachelor of Midwifery programs.
For nursing students, there is a 4 week aged care placement in Stage 2 of the program and 2 x 8 week placements in Stage 3 of the program. These are to be completed full-time over the 4 week and 8 week blocks.
For midwifery students, the birth requirements for the Bachelor of Midwifery (40 across the program) means that the placement hours are extensive and require students to 'follow through' the experience of 40 women. Each of the course statements detail clinical hours.
The Clinical Placement Unit at the University try to arrange placements for interstate students in their own state. However, due to limited placement availability and/or a request from a placement venue that a student be assessed directly by a University staff member, some interstate students may be required to attend a placement in metropolitan Adelaide. All students require a valid National Police Check and Senior First Aid Certificate prior to undertaking any placement.
