Studying
architecture at UniSA gave me the experience and
body of work to get my first job. Design studios are a core part of the degree and help develop your
own individual creative style, as well as fostering skills to
communicate it effectively.
In third year, my class worked on a project to design an Australian consulate in Chile. It was a great brief, a huge project and got us all enthused. We basically lived in the design studio that whole semester!
I also learnt how to present my work and communicate effectively. Good verbal skills, hand drawing, model making and computer generated imagery are essential communication tools to have when dealing with clients. To be a successful architect you need patience, perseverance, creativity and well developed communication and organisation skills.
UniSA's Bachelor of Architecture is not a degree you can do half-heartedly - it's demanding and your tutors really do push you but the results are rewarding both personally and professionally.
