I always enjoyed maths and science
and it was my high
school maths teacher who suggested a career in engineering.
I’m currently working on modifying and redesigning the plant assembly
line here at Mitsubishi Motors to optimise performance.
I chose UniSA because
they offered a more practical, hands-on degree, giving you a broad grounding in different engineering processes from which you can then choose an area
to specialise in.
As part of my studies I spent six months at the University of Twente in
the Netherlands undertaking an industry research project. We utilised
Finite Element Analysis to model Deep Draw Stretch Forming - metal
stretching - and examined how to get the most metal stretch without
compromising the condition of the metal. At the end of my final year I
went on a one month advanced manufacturing tour of Taiwan,
working on an automotive related project at the National Cheng Kung
University.
My overseas study experiences were invaluable - I learnt how international companies and factories are run
and how
to communicate within the industry and with a wide range of people.
There are many career opportunities out there for engineering
graduates. You can work in virtually any industry and can just pick and choose from a range
of career options.
