From mathematics to electronic warfare

Janelle GoldupI’ve always liked mathematics but in today’s society, you need computer skills as well as there are numerous computer-based applications for mathematics. That’s why I chose to study mathematical and the computer modelling.

In my third year at UniSA, I  went to the Netherlands on a student exchange in the University of Twente. It was a fantastic opportunity to experience another culture and see how things operate.

When I joined DSTO, I was initially involved in undersea warfare operations, looking at counter measures such as  tow decoys. I've now moved to electronic warfare and radar, looking at airborne counter measures. In all of these, I've been able to apply my mathematical skills.
