Building Innovation in Learning and Teaching (BuILT)
Welcome to BuILT, an initiative of UniSA funded by the Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) as part of the Promoting Excellence Initiative.
The purpose of BuILT is to develop and implement an integrated, University-wide program of development activities designed to create a sustainable system for building and disseminating excellence in teaching. The focus on mentoring acknowledges the importance of context and discipline in higher education teaching and learning. However, it is also important to look beyond one's discipline to the teaching and learning that occurs in other, perhaps quite disparate, disciplines for innovative ideas. For this reason, BuILT is about the sharing of knowledge and ideas in Teaching and Learning between all the University's Schools and Divisions.
Ultimately, the aim is to improve the quality of teaching and maximise the learning outcomes for our students. In particular, this will enhance staff reward and recognition through teaching awards, innovative grant projects, and publications in the scholarship of teaching and learning. BuILT supports these aspirations by providing a structure for peer observation, reflection, discussing and acting on feedback, developing a personal philosophy of teaching, and engaging with education literature.
