Game makes for fun start to university life
Learning Connection has introduced a fun way to help new students enjoy a smooth transition to university life.
Unigame is a face-to-face discussion-based game for groups of commencing students, which will be run on all metropolitan campuses during the first weeks of each semester (study periods two and five).
Participants compete in teams, considering a range of scenarios they are likely to be faced with as new students – from starting a new relationship, to negotiating extensions and juggling work and uni commitments. Through discussion and debate, the teams choose an appropriate course of action from a multiple choice list.
Originally developed by Monash University, Unigame is followed by lunch and plenty of time to chat.
"It is a fun way to explore the lifestyle changes which happen to every student when they come to University," says Learning Connection international student counsellor, Diana Collett.
"Just like life, the outcomes are unpredictable – the same response can be interpreted differently and bring about a different consequence. This stimulates some very interesting discussions in the groups.
"Everyone quickly realises they are not the only ones faced with these new challenges as well as finding out how exciting uni life can be."
Unigame will be run at City West Campus on Wednesday March 9 from 12 noon - 2.00pm in GK4.30, at City East Campus on Wednesday March 9 from 6.00 - 8.00pm in Gate One, at The Playhouse at Magill on March 16 from 12 noon - 2.00pm in D1.09, and at Mawson Lakes on March 30, 12.00 - 2.00pm in GP2.31.
